I did a search recently on a keyword combination for
measuring my own website and it was interesting
My search
phrase was "virginia web design" and if you do a search
phrase as well you will note that the number of websites
that Google returns exceeds 44 million. Now I am not
bragging my any means and there are many more people out
there smarter than me that can hit the top ten. But
regardless, I did hit the top ten for this search phrase "virginia
web design".
The day I discovered that I had hit this supreme page was
a tremendous rush and feeling of accomplishment. After all,
you read this stuff and wonder if it really works or are so
called gurus blowing smoke in our face.
Like I said, I do not profess to be a guru but since
hitting this mark I have been able to do it consistently
even with customer websites.
Now you might be saying "Okay big deal". My goal may have
been to hit the top ten but why can't I sit on top of the
heap?
The answer is; I can.
What I have to do now is play smarter than the five other
sites currently ahead of me. So what I did was I went to
each of the pages that ranked higher than mine and I studied
each one.
I searched for "virginia web design" on what was being
displayed to the surfer and I also examined the html code in
the background that people do not normally see. I counted
keywords, links, ALT info and what was being displayed in
the Title, Description and even what was in the H1 tags.
The results were interesting to say the least.
The data proves that I can beat them. In fact there is no
reason that I should not pass at least 2 of them once this
article is spidered by Google.
I hope it happens! I am ready to kick some booty with so
called competitors in my area.
